Vietnam visa requirements for citizens of Japan

Undervisa exemption agreement in 2005 between Vietnam and Japan, Japanese citizens are granted visa-free stay of 15 days. In other words, there is no Vietnam visa requirement for Japanese.

What if I stay longer than authorized period?

If you plan to stay more than 15 days, then 1 month single tourist visa will be required. Although the visa extension/renewal from within country is possible, it costs expensive and takes up much time.

How to apply for a short-term tourist visa?

At present time there are 2 options of getting travel visa for Japanese: apply online and receive visa on arrival, or apply in person at embassy to get full visa prior to the trip.

1. Visa On Arrival

Vietnam Visa On Arrival facility is very popular today as it uses the minimum of time, money and energy. It works excellent for arrivals by air but helpless for land border crossing. If you are interested in picking the visa upon arrival, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Complete visa application form online (Helpful post: How to fill out application form)

Step 2: Use credit/debit card to pay processing fee (Read more Vietnam visa fee)

Step 3: Check your email to receive visa approval letter after 2 business days (processing time does not include weekends and national holidays). For emergency applications, the approval letter will be issued within a few hours on the same day. Please read Rush Vietnam Visa Service for more information)

Step 4: Bring the approval letter to the airport and show it with your original passport, 01 passport photo, completed entry-exit form at immigration counter. This process will take some time. When it’s done, your name will be called and your passport is help up to the window. Then you pay stamping fee and receive the passport back. The fee is as follows: 45 USD for single visa (1 month and 3 months), 65 USD for 1 month multiple visa, 95 USD for 3 month multiple visa.

Please be noted that the stamping fee must be paid by cash in USD or VND currency. There is no ATMs or money changers in the immigration hall. If you have a bank card, the officer may escort you to an ATM to withdraw some money. But you might wait for many hours as the officers are very busy.

2. Traditional visa

Before offering guidance to obtain Vietnam visa from embassy/consulate in Japan, we would like to reveal that General Consulate of Vietnam in Fukuoka is known to be helpful and friendly. They may be the best place for you to submit paper application.

Processing time required:

3-5 business days since the complete application and full payment is submitted.

Informationabout long-term Vietnam business visa

When you have to travel frequently from Japan to Vietnam or want to work in Vietnam for months, a long-term business visa is very useful. Making use of long-term visa will help you stay in Vietnam for a long time without reapply for each visit.

Submitting application for long-term visa at embassy/consulate is usually complicated and requires lots of documents. Not many travel agents are capable of arranging a long-term visa for Japanese and we are one of few agents can make it real.

To request a multiple business visa valid for 6 months or 1 year, you need to supply your scanned copy of passport, expected travel date and let us know Vietnam Embassy/Consulate you want to collect the visa after the processing is completed. Shortly, we will create a link to help you pay the fee. The processing fee for 6 months multiple Vietnam business visa is 390 USD and for 1 year multiple Vietnam business visa is 620 USD.

It will take at least 5-7 business days until you receive visa approval letter. Once you had it, check your full name, passport number and entry/exit date and make sure they are 100% correct. You will not be allowed to enter Vietnam before the entry date shown. Below is a sample of visa approval:

Now you just need to take the letter with you to embassy and get the visa there. At the embassy office, you have to pay additional stamping fee for getting the visa. The fee is 95 USD for 6 months multiple visa and 135 USD for 1 year multiple visa.
