Vietnam suspends visa waiver for 8 European countries

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved the suspension of visa-free travel for citizens of 8 European countries starting from March 9th. They include Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweeden, UK, Germany, France, and Spain.  The move comes after Vietnam recorded an additional 11 patients who had traveled from Europe.

Earlier, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Controlproposed the government to temporarily stop the visa waiver to EU countries andr non-EU countries which has had a total of more than 500 coronavirus cases or 50 cases confirmed single day. The country also imposes a ban on entry to anyone who develops symstoms of coronavirus.

Vietnam earlier suspended visa-free entry to South Korean and Italian travelers. On March 6^th, the Vietnamese Prime Minister agreed to halt visa-free entry to all Vietnamese overseas and their family residing in these two countries. This is considered as a protective measure towards coronavirus.

As of March 9^th, Covid19 has spread across 109 countries and territories with more than 110,000 infections including 3.800 deaths. The number of confirmed Vietnam cases of coronavirus has risen to 30 with 14 new cases reported over the weekend.

Starting from March 10th, Vietnam temporarily stops granting visas to citizens coming from Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweeden, UK, Germany, France, and Spain. For the other European countries, Vietnam also suspends issuing the business visas. However, the travelers are still able to get a tourist visa to visit Vietnam.
