Vietnam extends visa waiver for 5 European countries
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has finally promulgated decree of extending visa waiver program for 5 European countries, which expired on 30th June, for one more year. This means visitors from United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain traveling to Vietnam during period from 1st July 2016 to 30th June 2017 are granted visa-free access for stays of no longer than 15 days.
.
This is not only good news for visitors but also for local travel companies as the earlier visa waiver policy, valid from 1st July 2015 to 30th June 2016, has helped to increase arrivals of tourists from these countries quarter by quarter. In the six-month period, Italy posted the biggest rise in tourist numbers, 30 percent, followed by the UK and Spain, 24.6 percent and 22.7 percent, respectively. Tourism revenues increase 22 percent year-on-year to more than VND200 trillion (US$9 billion). Officials are confident that the country can achieve the targets of 8.5 million foreign visitors this year and $370 trillion in revenues.
Vietnam so far has implemented unilateral visa exemption for Japan, South Korea, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Belarus and bilateral exemption for 9 ASEAN countries. For more information about Vietnam visa exemption, please refer to this page.
