Sa Pa pedestrianised Cau May street for tourists
On occassion of 110th anniversary of Sa Pa tourism and purpose of establishing civilization and culture in Sa Pa tourism urban, People’s Committte of Sa Pa District has decided to pedestrianise Cau May Street to serve tourists.>
Located at the heart of Sa Pa town, Cau May Street was built hundreds of years ago. This place has plenty of hotels, motels, and tourism services. Thus, it is indeed very necessary to ensure security and safety for tourists as well as implement urban civilization to offer most favorable conditions for relaxation, sightseeing of tourists.>
In order not to affect daily life of residents, the vehicles are forbidden only on Friday and Saturday, the most touristy days.
At weekend, the residents are allowed to sell souvenirs, brocade products and food along the pedestrian street. The implementation of pedestrian street is said to create cultural space, urban civilization and introduce local cultural identity to tourists. The tourists can feel comfortale to visit and go shopping souvenirs of ethnic people without disturbance of traffic pressure.
“The street is amazing. We are allured by scenic landscape and excellent brocades of H’Mong ethnic people. The stalls in this place are also very crowded. Everything is clear, people are friendly. The pedestrian street is beautifully decorated with sparkling lights. We love this land, indeed.”, said a British tourist.
Sa Pa District has plan to enlarge pedestrian streets at the weekend and festival days, improving local tourism space, meeting demands for sightseeing and relaxation of tourists. The growth of streets for pedestrians also creates opportunity for artists and local people to promote traditional craft, cuisine culture, trade and tourism service.
