1. Beef steak
The words “Bit tet” is transcribed from Beef steak in English or bifteck in French and imported to Vietnam by French from century XVIII. Whenever talking about beef steak, people often imagine the picture of tender beef meat with a savory burning layer served on cow-shaped plate.
Earlier, beef steak is only served in luxury restaurants. However, it has become popular dish and favorite street food of Saigonese. A full beef steak dish includes beef, potatoes, pâté, omelette, bread, accompanied with chili sauce and soy sauce.
2. Bread, omelette, pâté
Bread derives from France but it is known as a popular fast food of Vietnamese people. Not to be so sophisticated in cooking, pâté, omelette are altogether put into a loaf of bread with some sour ingredients, mayonnaise or pepper. The dish is simple and suitable for eaters of all ages.
3. Soup
When being imported in Vietnam, soup is only served in Saigon’s restaurants. Nowadays, it is Vietnamized in order to suitable for taste and lifestyle of native people. Currently, soup is so popular that you could enjoy it in the streets in Saigon.
Soup is made with different ingredients , so it is called by different names such as chicken soup, mushroom soup, seafood soup…. Soup is cooked in thick and thin ways. With savory and elegant flavor, it is perfect choice for starter, snack food.
4. Flan
Since French introduced flan to Vietnam, it enjoys great popularity at urban. Flan (also known as Caramel ) is a sweet egg custard-type dessert which made with milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla.
Not only nutritious dish for kids and pregnant women, flan is also snack food of teenagers. It is considered as not-to-be-missed street food of Vietnam people.
