The Vietnamese National Assembly came into agreement on adopting the revised immigration law on November 25th,2019. In details, the law states that the foreigners are exempted from a Vietnam Visa to enter the following coastal economic zones: An international airport; A distinct space; A clear territorial border; Separated from mainland; Suitable to the policy for economic and social development, and most importantly, do not pose any threats to national security to maintain social order of Vietnam. The visa-free stay is up to 30 days. The law will come into effect on July 1 next year and apply to citizens of all countries.
The chairman of National Defense-Security Commission, Vo Trong Viet, emphasized the necessity of the revision because it not only attracts more investment from the foreigners, boosting the growth of the coastal economic zones but also secure the state management and maintain the national defence and security.
At present, only Phu Quoc is qualified as a special coastal economic zone based on the criteria. “ Over the past years, we have implemented the visa exemption for the foreigners to Phu Quoc and get positive results. The national defence-security is still preserved while the number of foreign visitors and investors have increased.”, said Nguyen Thanh Hong.
