In the morning of 6 June, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan worked with tourism managers on improving Vietnam’s tourism environment. At online conference, Report of National Steering committee on tourism pointed out 7 negative problems of tourism sector.
Prominent problems include lax management, lack of responsibility by managers, insufficient warning information for tourists, lack of long-term strategies for tourism services, price gouging and cheating, and overcrowding at several tourists sites.
According to Mr. Ho Anh Tuan, Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry, Sam Son in Thanh Hoa is a typical case for such problems while local authorities seem to have yet to take any actions. This situation not only decreases but also gone complicated which badly affected tourism industry in many years.
Besides, he also named several places where often record cases of price gouging, cheating and robberies to tourists including Hanoi, HCM City, Ha Long in Quang Ninh Province, Vung Tau in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Cua Lo in Nghe An Province, Sam Son in Thanh Hoa Province, Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province and Dalat in Lam Dong Province.
At the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, the head of the National Steering Committee for Tourism, said ministries, branches and local authorities must find out drastic measures to improve the situation.
Hanoi is one of examples for efficiency of the intervention from functional agencies on reorganizing negative behaviors in tourism industry. That is, Hanoi gave stern solutions for 116 taxi companies in the city; checking taxi meter clocks, setting up cameras to watch taxis’ plate at the airport’ supervising taxi drivers at Noi Bai International airport.
He has assigned the Ministry of Transport in coordination with the Vietnam Informatics Association as well as Hanoi and HCM City municipal governments to study measures to putting up cameras at major airports so as to better control taxi operations there.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan asked Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry to continue finding a new slogan for Vietnam’s tourism which put tourists’ satisfaction to be a top priority of non-smoke industry.
