Thung nai, poetic beauty in Northwest

Another world, unspoiled scenery, a perfect combination of mountains and islands set in immense blue waters but less than 50 miles (80 km) from  scenic Hoa Binh, home to the Muong ethnic people with their famous homes on stilts. Many visitors have been left with memories of graciousness and romance about Thung Nai.

People call this valley Thung Nai because it used to be the residence of animals, most of them are deer. Herds of deer flock to this place to search for food along the streams and hills. Therefore, the valley full of deer has gradually become official name.

Currently, Thung Nai has not deer any more but it passionate visitors by stunning landscapes, pure fresh air. Looking down from above, Thung Nai is such a poetic and glamorous natural work. The large lake is surrounded by mountainous ranges with various shapes. The white clouds in the sky are in reflection of green water surface.
Hundreds of large and small flooded mountains and hills emerging from the lake create a floating Halong. On rainy days, the lake water bears red due to silt and on sunny days, the lake seems to get larger due to reflection of imposing mountains and vast blue sky.

Spring is the most ideal time to admire beauty of Thung Nai. Visitors could take sightseeing by boat around the lake or explore surrounding tourist destinations such as Thac Bo temple and grotto, Trach cave, Windmills guesthouse, village of Muong ethnic minority… Particularly, in Thug Nai, you should not miss Thac Bo floating market opening every Sunday, not too crowded and noisy.

The market is the meeting place of boats where people sell the products caught last night. From Thac Bo floating market, you could visit Thac Bo temple in Song village to witness unique spiritual activities. At the foot of Thac Bo temple are fish cages. An hour boat ride away is Ngoi Hoa village, a rustic village of Muong ethnic minority. Another small island whose name is Qua(Crow) because many crows often stop over here.

Thung Nai brings you back to wild nature with peaceful atmosphere. Moreover, specialties in Thung Nai, particularly grilled fish, are very delicious. Leave crazy life behind for a few days and spend your time in Thung Nai.
