Me Linh commune, Me Linh District, Hanoi is the hometown of the Trung Sisters (Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, two national heroines), and where they claimed to be kingdoms and established capital after defeating the Chinese invaders in early AD (40-43).
To memorize the big devotion of the Trung Sisters, on the 6th of lunar month, the local peple organize annual festival at this place.
The festival starts with kingdom palanquin procession, war elephants, and gifts from Ha Loi communal house to the Trung Sisters’ Temple. The procession took place in jubilant, boisterous atmosphere, colorful flags, the drums, cymbals and melodious octets.
The prestigious and righteous elders of the village were selected to play drum, gong on the festival. Two suites of palanquin were carried by beautiful healthy girls of the village.
At two sides of the road, the local people set up altars in front of the door to welcome the procession. Everyone respects and commemorates the great uprising against northern invaders of the Trung Sisters.
After the ceremony was festival with folk dances, wrestling, traditional games of the country such as swinging, beating clay pots.
The Trung Sisters Festival not only has spiritual sense but also traditional culture event, honoring the earth, mountains and rivers, nation; honoring the Trung Sisters as typical model for proficient, loyal, heroic Vietnamese women;
The festival is also one of the festivities opening a new year full of festivals throughout the Vietnam countryside, attracting thousands of locals and visitors.
