Ngoan Muc is regarded as one of the most beautiful passes in Vietnam. The name (Breathtaking) partly expresses its attraction. With the length of 18.5 km stretching from high level of 200 m to 980 m, Ngoan Muc is also the highest pass in the south.
The pass connecting Lam Dong and Ninh Thuan provinces has been existed for nearly 200 years (1917). Previously, this is the main route from Nha Trang-Phan Rang to Dalat and also an attractive destination for exploration tours. The pass snakes round the hill slope creating many layers. Along the pass is green forest, waterfall and white clouds. The pass links the coastal plain in the south central and Dalat plateau by spectacular and romantic beauty.
From Ngoan Muc pass, tourists could have a general view of surrounding landscapes with the streams runs past the mountain’s walls and hill ranges with rich flora. Riding to the pass in the morning, your breath will be taken away by dense clouds. On full moon nights, you may intensively feel visionary atmosphere among boundless forests. The loneliness suddenly occurs and easily makes you startled by a sound from somewhere.
Due to obstacle terrain, Ngoan Muc becomes a favorite route for backpackers travelling from Dalat to Phan Rang. If you ever went through many passes in Vietnam, you will realize that Ngoan Muc is not a lifeless pass but an animated entity expressing different emotions.
