With over 1,000 m above sea level, entirely isolated from residential areas, Mau Son stands out with its primitive, ancient beauty containing mysteries to any visitors.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Duong- Head of Mau Son Management Board, it was the French who found out Mau Son and built a lot of villas as well as planted flower carpets on this 1,000 m mountain. After many years, a lot of ancient architectures fell into ruins, only some ancient houses, ground base and walls still remain.
The tourist site currently has 12 service businesses with nearly 20 buildings, 5 of which were constructed on the ground base of ancient French villas. In spite of new reconstruction, most of these villas are covered by moss due to high level of humidity, which enhances the mystery and ancientry of the villas. Not far away from Hanoi center, Mau Son captures a many visitors at the weekend who wish to breathe fresh air, enjoy the whole setting of Lang Son region, and admire flower carpets nested among ancient villas.
According to statistics, Mau Son welcomed 32,500 arrivals including foreigners in the first 6 months of 2013.
