The bus is a popular mode of transport in Vietnam. It is cheap, convenient but there is something that you should keep in mind to make it easier for you, dear foreigners.
- Buy the ticket at the registered booth inside the terminals only. Do not believe in what the middlemen are saying or you may be overcharged. They often gather around the terminals and wait for their victims. We are pretty sure that you do not want to get unexpected experience from these guys.
- Another tip for you when taking a bus in Vietnam is not to catch a bus running on the road because they will keep running around until all seats are filled. This is really an annoying time-wasting.
- Keep an eye on your stuff always and don’t take any free drink from nice strangers!
- Most of the Vietnamese people who live in small towns or remote areas cannot speak English. Therefore, you should write all the names of your destination on a piece of paper to show you in case they do not understand you. Besides, body language is also a good way to communicate with the native people
- The bus will stop several times during the trip at mealtime. You can prepare your own food or try some local for. Please remember that exotic foods can be very delicious but if you do not have a good stomach for it, don’t push yourself too far. Otherwise, you are supposed to spend the rest of your time with the toilet.
- There are the many xe-om and sorts waiting at the station and proposing to drive you to the destination. Make sure that you know where you are going to and how far is it to get there so that they could not defraud you by driving your around and around the city to charge you more than you really have to. One more thing, do not afraid to bargain for a good deal.
- The last tip. Check Vietnam visa requirements to see if you need to obtain a visa.
