In order to be concordant with the development of transport, Hanoi is planning to remove pedicabs.
In a meeting with Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi said that the unsuitable transport were gradually removed through developing process of transport. Therefore, the city intends to eliminate pedicabs by repurchasing them and arranging a job for the labor.
Since 2009, Hanoi had decision to permit 4 cab service companies to operate
To handle this issue, Mr. Nghi said that the authority will repurchase all the cabs. In other hands, the pedicab drivers will be created a job.
Previously, the issue on tourist pedicab elimination was recommended by many Hanoi’s agencies. It was because pedicabs were no longer suitable to current development of street. Especially, pedicabs often cause traffic jam or retard the circulation of motorized means.
Since 2009, Hanoi city allowed 4 companies to do business in cab service. These cabs were stipulated about itinerary, number of carried passengers, pedicab station, the distance between the pedicabs and fixed time of circulation.
