Bird Island or Wind Island is located in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province. Bird Island is currently the most ideal residence of swallows, one of the rarest seagull species in the world. It is also a perfect destination for Vietnamese and foreign tourists to Quang Binh.
Tourists could get to Bird Islands by boat according to 2 routes: the first route starts from Nhat Le estuary in Dong Hoi city with about 4-hour riding. The second is from Canh Duong estuary with only 2-hour boat riding.
From the distance, Bird Island is fresh and gorgeous with green primitive forests and blue immense ocean. Surrounding of the island is dense short bushes interlaced with sharp rocks.
Bird Island is evaluated to be the largest Asian purebred bird island still remaining pristine. In spite of small area with nearly 1 km2, the island is the home to over 3 million seagulls.
Standing at high mounds and admire the island, tourists will feel free and excited with the magic beauty of nature. On the island, tourist will contemplate the vast sea, imposing mountains, listen to the flap created by waves bumping into cliffs or birds singing.
Bird Island is attractive not only with the magic beauty of mountains and sea but also with a clean and green environment, fresh air and unique tourist attractions. In Bird Island, tourists will have the opportunity to visit poetic surrounding islands of Quang Binh such as Swallow Island, Bat Cave of Nothern island group.
At present, Bird Island is not very popular because of being remote from mainland, inconvenient traffic. The true tourism potentials of the island haven’t been thoroughly exploited and widely advertised. However, in the future, when receiving sensible investment and prompt protection from authorities, Bird Island will be the perfect destination for domestic and international scientists who want to do research, explore valuable bird species and tourists keen on exploring nature.
