Popular food streets in Hanoi

1. Ta Hien street

Long time ago, Ta Hien street serves foreign tourists only. However, it has become popular street food destination for teenagers recently.

In spite of being short and narrow, the street is always crowded with teen customers eating and chatting from the beginning to the end of the street.

The peak hour of street is after 7 pm. There are 2 main types of vendors in this street. The first is vendors that serve fried fermented pork finger snack, fried cheese stick, lemon tea. The second is vendors serving beer accompanied with boiled peanuts, fermented pork roll…

The price of food here is very cheap but the parking fee is expensive which costs  VND 10.000-15.000.

2. Dao Duy Tu street

Dao Duy Tu is next to Ta Hien street but the menu  and customers of its are not as plentiful as in Ta Hien street. However, famous lemon tea shops attracts a lot of young people to creat exciting atmosphere for the street. Hanoi teenagers like to gather  in Dao Duy Tu not only because it is the home of lemon tea but also lemon tea here tastes more delicious for scent of jasmine in it.

Besides of lemon tea, Dao Duy Tu is also known for Phu Ly rolled cake or rice with grilled pork which is very tasty and affodable.

3.  Dong Xuan alley

Dong Xuan alley is so small and narrow but serves varieties of food such as glutinous rice doughnut, pillow cake (“bánh gối” in Vietnamese), shrimp cake, snail rice vermicelli. More than that, che in Dong Xuan alley is extremely diverse such as che with corn, atata, cassava…and caramen. In general, Dong Xuan alley is popular interesting cuisine destination that can not be known by any street food lovers.

4. Trang  Tien alley

If you love ice-cream, head to Trang Tien. Trang Tien alley is favorite destination for both teenagers and office staffs. Coming here, you are easy to catch the boys and girls in beautiful clothes enjoying delicious che or rice vermicelli with soya bean curd and shrimp paste. Trang Tien ally attracts variety wide of customer because of 2 reasons. Firstly, the alley is situated in center with very clear and open space. Secondly, the menu in Trang Tien is so diverse that can satisfy any strict customers.

The quality of dishes here is not very excellent but abundant in return for. In addition, the food price is cheaper than other places in city’s center.

5.  Cam Chi alley and Tong Duy Tan Street

It will be a shortcoming if we miss out Tong Duy Tan and Cam Chi because this is the only place allowed to build a big gate “Cuisine street” by the Government.

Tong Duy Tan and Cam Chi has become popular cuisine destination in Hanoi for many years. Identity of the streets is that all restaurants serve 24/24, so the streets are always crowded. The main dishes here are rice, noodle, porridge, glutinous rice, hot pot…., but the price is not cheap at all.

However, because the street has had a long-standing cultural tradition and a famous dish – fried rice with chicken many people like, the street is still crowded in the midday and in the evening and it is considered as one of the most animated food streets in Hanoi.
